WEEKLY NEWSLETTER: FRIDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER

Dear Parents and Carers,

There has been a wonderful atmosphere across St Michael’s this week, with a true sense of energy and community as we continue to settle into the new academic year. On Wednesday, we were delighted to officially welcome our new Reception cohort into school. The children have made an excellent start, and we are incredibly impressed with how well they have adapted to their new routines. It has been a joy to see them engaging so positively with their learning, and we look forward to watching them flourish as valued members of our school community.

On Tuesday, we were pleased to welcome a professional photographer into school. They captured a range of lovely images that reflect the spirit and vibrancy of life at St Michael’s. We look forward to updating our school website with these photographs in the coming weeks. It must be said – what a beautiful and joyful group of children we are fortunate to have here.

In our collective worship this week, we have shared two particularly meaningful assemblies. On Monday, we reflected on the theme of friendship, closely linked to our core Christian value of love. Together, we considered what it means to be a good friend, and explored the idea that "a friend loves at all times." We focused on the passage from Luke 5:17–26, where Jesus heals a paralysed man who is brought to Him by his friends. This powerful story reminded us of the strength and selflessness that true friendship can offer.

On Wednesday, we welcomed a visit from Empower, a Christian outreach programme, who led an engaging and thoughtful assembly centred on the story of Joseph and his ten brothers. Through this narrative, the children explored the themes of forgiveness and resilience, and were encouraged to reflect on how, even in times of hardship, we are called to open our hearts and extend forgiveness to others – just as Jesus taught us.

Notices and Information

School Drop-off

The school gates close promptly at 8:55am. If you arrive at this time or later, you will need to sign your child in at the school office. It is absolutely vital that we lock the gates at this time in order to keep all of our children safe. Thank you for your understanding and support. In addition, the small gate at the top of Clare Road will now remain locked: please use the school path next to it.

Worship Committee

We are pleased to share the launch of our new Worship Committee, which was introduced to the children in today’s assembly. This initiative will give pupils a meaningful role in shaping our worship life at St Michael’s. The committee will be responsible for selecting music, writing prayers, and offering ideas to support the development of our Christian ethos. Children in Years 1 and 2 who are interested in joining the Worship Committee should inform their class teacher. Pupils in Years 3 to 6 are asked to submit a short written manifesto explaining why they believe they are suited to the role. The deadline for all applications is Friday 3rd October.

School Council

School council elections will be taking place for pupils in Years 1, 3, and 6. Any child wishing to stand for election should collect a nomination form from Mrs Liber. We always look forward to seeing the enthusiasm and leadership our pupils bring to this important aspect of school life.

Residential

Looking ahead to next week, we wish our Year 5 pupils a safe and enjoyable journey as they head off on their residential trip to Kingswood. We hope that this time away will be filled with opportunities for challenge, growth, and the making of lasting memories.

Bikeability

Year 6 pupils in Group 1 will also begin their Bikeability training. This is a valuable opportunity for them to develop their cycling proficiency and road safety awareness, and we know they are looking forward to the experience.

Finally, a reminder that next week is PE Week A.

As always, thank you for your continued support and encouragement. On behalf of myself and Mr Chris Speller, I want to say how grateful we are to be part of this wonderful community. St Michael’s truly is a special place – full of joy, energy, and care – and it’s a privilege to share in your children’s journeys.

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.

Yours sincerely,
Louisa Sillett
