St Michael's C of E Primary School
Journeying together with Christ

Weekly News: Friday 12th September

Dear Parents and Carers,

We’ve had a fantastic second week back at school! Relationships across the classes are really blossoming, and our staff have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know your children even better. There has been an abundance of high-quality learning taking place, with pupils fully engaged in all areas of the curriculum.

Our worship assemblies have also been a joyful part of the week, with children singing new songs with great enthusiasm. In collective worship, we reflected on how we live out our school value of ‘Love’, as we continue 'Journeying together with Christ'  this academic year. It has been wonderful to see the children putting this into practice in their daily interactions— and we hope you’re seeing this reflected at home too.

Over the weekend, we were busy setting up some exciting new developments in school. We are delighted to share that our brand-new ICT suite is now up and running! With 16 new computers in place, this space will inspire and engage our young learners in new and exciting ways. A huge thank you goes to the Friends of St Michael’s (FOSM), whose generosity made this project possible. We are confident this new facility will create many enriching learning opportunities for our children.

Notices and Information

Social Media at St Michael’s

We know—through Ofsted feedback and your conversations with us—that many of you want to hear more about what your children are doing and learning in school. In this new chapter for the school, there are so many great things planned, so we’re excited to begin sharing more of our day-to-day life at St Michael’s through social media.

In the coming weeks, we will be launching two new platforms:

  • Facebook Page
Our new, public Facebook page will celebrate school-wide achievements, such as 'Stars of the Week', parent-submitted celebrations (that used to go in the newsletters), and community events. You can view a sample of what this might look like on the St Edward’s Primary Facebook page.
  • ClassDojo
This app will support our behaviour systems and allow class teachers to share weekly updates, learning highlights, and celebratory photos directly with parents.

To support this initiative, we’re updating our photo permission preferences. Please take a moment to complete the form below to let us know whether or not you give permission for your child’s photo to be shared via these platforms:

More details about both platforms will follow before we go live however, we would appreciate you completing the permission forms as we set these up. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak to Mr Speller or myself.

Catering Service Survey

We are in the process of redesigning and relaunching our Catering Service, which will include refreshed menus and a new ordering system. To help shape this process, we’d greatly appreciate it if you could take two minutes to complete our quick survey—regardless of whether your child currently has school dinners:

School Photographer

Next week, a professional photographer will be visiting school to capture images of school life for our updated website and new social media. We look forward to sharing the results with you soon!

Year 6 Meeting

On Monday, there will be a Year 6 Parent Meeting in the hall from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Uniform

As the wet weather begins, please ensure that if your child wears wellies to school, they also bring their plain black school shoes (no trainers) in a separate bag to change into during the day. Please make sure that your child brings a named water bottle to school. They will have plenty of opportunities to refill it throughout the day.

SCS Multi-sports Club

SCS will be running a multi-sports club every Thursday for Yrs 1 to 4.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. It has been a brilliant start to the year, and we’re excited for all the learning and growth that lies ahead. Mr Speller will be at St Michael's Church this Sunday, taking part in their 'Education Sunday' service. If you are there, do go and say hello to him!

Kind regards,
Louisa Sillett
