Weekly Newsletter: Friday 20th March
Dear Parents and Carers,
What a wonderful week it has been across the school! The gorgeous sunshine has certainly lifted everyone’s spirits, bringing a real sense of energy and positivity to our classrooms and outdoor spaces.
It has also been a particularly special week as we welcomed so many of you into school for Parents’ Evening. It was a pleasure to share the progress your children have been making and to celebrate their achievements together. Thank you for your continued support and partnership - it truly makes a difference.
Our Year 6 pupils have approached their mock SATs assessments with great maturity and determination this week. They have worked incredibly hard and should feel very proud of the effort they are putting into this important stage of their learning journey.
Across the school, children have continued to embrace new challenges with enthusiasm, showing focus, resilience and a real commitment to their learning.
We also thoroughly enjoyed celebrating Red Nose Day, with children coming to school dressed in wonderful shades of red. It was fantastic to see the whole school come together for such a meaningful cause, with smiles and laughter shared throughout the day.
During Collective Worship this week, we have been learning about Good Friday as part of the season of Lent. The children explored why this day is described as “good,” reflecting on the meaning behind Jesus’ sacrifice and the love and hope it represents. They thoughtfully discussed how Good Friday reminds us of kindness, forgiveness and the importance of putting others before ourselves.
We were also delighted to welcome Curate James from St Michael’s Church, who spoke to the children about what it means to be a treasure. He shared the Parable of the Hidden Treasure, helping the children understand that each person is special and valued. The story encouraged them to think about recognising their own worth, as well as appreciating the value in others.
This week’s pupil shoutout goes to Kiri in Year 3. Kiri has shown incredible maturity this week, well beyond her years. Her positive attitude has been noticed by both staff and peers, and we are incredibly proud of the kindness and care she shows to others. Well done, Kiri!
Congratulations also to all of our Stars of the Week. These moments allow us to celebrate the effort, creativity and determination shown by children across the school. We were also very proud of the pupils involved in the Brilliant Club, who shared their experiences of visiting Cambridge University and spoke confidently about their learning journey throughout the programme.
If your child has achieved something special outside of school, we would love to hear about it so we can celebrate together as a community.
Chapter 10 of The Mottlesnatch is attached, and we encourage all children to take part. Each entry earns five house points - well done to Shakespeare House for winning the House Cup for the second week in a row!
St Michael’s Church will also be running their Easter Smash Camp during the holidays - please see the attached poster for further details.

As we come to the end of this penultimate week of term, we take a moment to reflect during the season of Lent and give thanks for the lives we lead, enriched by the strong and supportive community we share here at St Michael’s.
We hope you enjoy a restful weekend with your families, and as always, we thank you for your continued support.
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field.
When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold everything he had and bought that field.”
Kind regards,
Mrs Louisa Sillett
